Thinking of Hosting a Community Screening of Floodland?
Hosting a screening of Floodland is a great way to gather your community and spark a discussion about climate preparedness and recovery. If you would like to screen the film in your community, workplace, home, school or organisation, click the button below and complete the form.
Screening & Discussion Guide
From the screen to sparking conversation Floodland can contribute to conversation with your community on how to adopt community-led solutions to prepare and recover from climate disasters.
With partners, We Al-Li and Dr Carlie Atkinson as well as Psychology for a Safe Climate we have prepared a TRAUMA INFORMED and FIRST NATIONS LED DISCUSSION GUIDE to assist you with guiding the discussion. It’s important to recognise that this film will be triggering for some in your community, so we have created a guide on how to support the conversation with the sensitivity it requires.
Northern Rivers Community Healing Hub (NRCHH) Community Activation Kit
Bundjalung and Yiman woman, Dr Carlie Atkinson, set up the Northern Rivers Community Healing hub (NRCHH) in response to the Lismore 2022 floods. As Carlie puts it “When the waters rose… they did not just flood homes and businesses they flooded nervous systems, they flooded memories, they flooded stories that many of our people have carried for generations.”
Carlie realised that climate trauma and intergenerational trauma intersect. Western disaster response focuses on the infrastructure, logistics and short term mental health interventions. All important, but not enough. Trauma is not only cognitive, it is embodied, relational and cultural.
A different frame is needed: a Culturally Informed Trauma Integrated Healing Approach (CITIHA)
Through donor support Floodland has funded Carlie to create the NRHCC Community Activation Guide. Think of it like a manual on how to employ CITIHA approaches in your community in partnership with your local mob. If you don't have any contact with First Nations groups in your community, start by contacting your Local Aboriginal Lands service.
